Not all superheroes wear capes. Some fight fires, save drowning people and underwrite cyber insurance!
17th November 2025When asked to describe his job as a Senior Cyber Underwriter to a five-year old, Dan Pasmore said:
“A cyber insurance underwriter is like a superhero. Not the Batman or Wonder Woman kind – a lot less cool than that and with less capes and Lycra. But more suits and gilets. And their job is to keep computer stuff safe for companies. Imagine someone has a magic shield to protect their computers – we ask lots of questions and help make sure the shield is super strong to use against the biggest monsters (hackers). We count things, look at clues, and decide if the magic shield should be big or small, so everyone can play safely online.”
This is a great example of Dan’s ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear way. Yes, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise from his time as an IT Director at Chelsea Football Club. But it’s his talent for translating that knowledge into something his audience will understand that makes him stand out. He can put himself in a client’s or broker’s shoes, appreciate what’s important to them, and select exactly the right information from a mountain of data to help them find a solution.
Before joining Trium, Dan was a Cyber Underwriter at Aspen where his unique blend of expertise in IT networks, corporate security, and emerging cyber threats made him a valuable bridge between underwriters and technology vendors.
At Trium and beyond, he is also valued for generous spirit. Not only does he share his learning and experience to further the knowledge of the whole team at all levels of seniority – but he is happy to share it with his peers too. His Linked In page is a great place to learn about the latest cyber threats and tools, gaining him followers from across the cyber insurance industry and, more importantly, helping to uplift the wider market expertise. He also arranges specific training sessions for brokers, which they regularly report are fun to attend, relevant and offer a fresh perspective. In addition, he runs training for risk managers, to help them understand more technical exposures. He isn’t afraid to reach out into different worlds and offer his support.
With a wealth of experience from top law firms, Mimecast, and IBM, Dan brings an exceptional network of IT professionals to Trium. This allows him to keep the underwriting team informed with timely updates on emerging threats and technology trends – ensuring Trium stays ahead in client conversations. He’s always expanding this network, actively engaging with innovative companies bringing cutting-edge solutions to market. Through this work, Dan is helping shape Trium’s differentiated, market-leading “protective shield” for clients. His background in roles that mirror those of our clients gives him a unique ability to identify tools that are genuinely useful and impactful for their evolving needs. And that’s the reason he decided to move from IT to insurance – to help solve client problems by innovating the way carriers are looking at cyber exposure and how they are being assess.
He’s able to clearly explain the benefits of new tools to the underwriting team, while also helping vendors understand the specific needs of insurance carriers, which are often overlooked in product design. By closing this gap, Dan enables Trium to collaborate effectively with partners, bringing innovative solutions to market that support smarter risk selection and deliver real, actionable value to clients.
However, Dan is not just a hero in the cyber insurance world – he’s a real-life hero of the saving lives kind too! His previous professions include as a policeman and as a firefighter, and he has received commendations for bravery in the face of extreme violence and for saving a drowning woman from the River Thames.
Maybe it’s a lack of fear that drives him into these new situations. Whatever it’s down to, he embodies Trium’s commitment to a non-siloed, integrated approach. His ability to bridge the gap between technical specialism and commercial underwriting is highly prized by Trium, whose top team recognise that they are lucky to find both skills sets on one person.
Somehow, Dan still finds time to take on incredible challenges for good causes. A few weeks ago, he swam 21 miles in a pool and run a full marathon to raise funds for St James Hospice. He also continues to support the Children’s Burns Trust – an organisation close to his heart from his days as a firefighter – and runs initiatives to inspire the next generation, including introducing his three daughters to inspiring women in sport.
He truly embodies Trium philosophy of ‘Connection - Insight - Strength’. When assessing risk, he asks focused questions specific to the client and their industry, rather than taking a checkbox approach. Clients feel seen by him. He understands their pressures and concerns, empathising with them, rather than sitting in judgement.
