Three years of Trium Cyber: Redefining what a cyber specialist can be
27th July 2026Building first-ever Lloyd’s-approved mono-line cyber syndicate
by Mauro Signorelli, Managing Director
As we celebrate Trium UK’s third anniversary, it is an appropriate moment to reflect on our journey since launching in 2023 as the first-ever Lloyd’s-approved mono-line cyber syndicate.
From the outset, our ambition was clear: to build a truly specialist cyber insurer focused exclusively on helping businesses navigate one of the most dynamic and complex risk landscapes in the world. Unlike many participants in the market, cyber is not simply one class of business within a broader portfolio - it is our sole focus. Our specialist approach extends far beyond underwriting, bringing together risk prevention, industry-renowned claims support and a team of cyber expertise with decades of experience.
We believed cyber insurance would become increasingly embedded within organisations’ wider risk management strategies, driven by growing digital dependency, heightened regulatory scrutiny and more sophisticated threat actors. Three years on, our prediction has proven largely true.
Importantly, the threat environment itself has evolved. While ransomware remains a significant concern, cyber incidents are increasingly being driven by highly organised threat actors rather than indiscriminate malware campaigns. Criminal groups are operating with greater sophistication, targeting critical business processes, exploiting trusted third-party relationships and using social engineering techniques to achieve maximum impact. The result is that businesses face more targeted, persistent and financially motivated attacks than ever before.
For clients, this means cyber risk remains firmly on the boardroom agenda. For brokers, it means clients are seeking more than just capacity. They want deep cyber expertise, consistency of underwriting, responsive claims support and a genuine partner that understands the realities of modern cyber risk.
From the outset, we took a different approach to many new entrants. Traditionally, start-ups in the cyber market launch cautiously, offering limited excess capacity and gradually expanding their capabilities over several years. We saw an opportunity to challenge the traditional model. Listening to brokers and their clients, it was clear the market was demanding a specialist cyber insurer that could be a credible primary lead by providing meaningful capacity and an established proposition from day one!
We chose to deliver that proposition form day one. We recruited some of the most talented people from across various industries (not just underwriters) and had an industry-leading cyber claims team in place, recognising that when a cyber incident occurs, the quality of response is just as important as the policy itself. Within six months of launching, we had expanded our offering by entering the primary market with a best-in-class policy wording, a significant milestone that is far from typical for a business at such an early stage of its development. Within these first three years, we are able to offer $20 million of capacity - something many established markets still cannot provide today.
In a crowded and highly competitive marketplace, this was a bold strategy. However, we believed brokers needed an immediate solution for clients facing an increasingly complex threat environment, not a proposition that would take years to mature. That decision has proven to be a key differentiator for Trium. By combining scale, expertise and specialist cyber focus from day one, we have achieved significant growth - we have written more than $160m of GWP globally and 20% of our book is now primary. We have also launched our dedicated European entity to be closer to clients and brokers outside of the UK.
As we begin our fourth year, our ambition remains unchanged. Cyber threats will continue to evolve, driven by geopolitical tensions, artificial intelligence, supply-chain vulnerabilities and increasingly professionalised criminal networks. And our commitment to be the industry-leading partner stands strong. We will continue to embed ourselves in the cyber market ecosystem to elevate best practices for brokers and their clients, not only through our insurance service but also our bespoke training and partnership events for brokers to support their client conversations.
The future of cyber insurance will see challenges increasing but also means it is full of opportunity. Trium Cyber will continue to provide the expertise, consistency and innovation that brokers and their clients need to navigate it with confidence.
